While Samsung’s Galaxy S series of smartphones has typically held its own in the camera department over the years, it seems that the company might have outdone themselves this year with the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, which in part is thanks to its autofocusing technology which in a comparison video, gave a proper DSLR camera a run for its money.
This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that the Galaxy S7 Edge has been named DxOMark’s best smartphone camera. According to Samsung, “From blink-of-an-eye autofocus delivering fewer blurry photos, to superior low-light photography, to significant advancements in video capture, the Galaxy S7 edge gives users a chance to capture every memory reliably and true to life.”
The company goes on to boast that this is thanks to technology that only used to be available in higher-end DSLR cameras. “Central to this performance is the groundbreaking dual-pixel technology in the Galaxy S7 edge camera—previously found only in expensive DSLR cameras.” The handset has since been awarded 88 points out of a possible 100.
According to DxOMark, they point out that the camera manages to capture good exposure and dynamic range, along with good detail preservation in low-light. However some cons include how ringing is visible, and how in some very high dynamic situations, the photo’s brightest tone parts are clipped and lose details.
